Examples of Faith in the Bible

Who had great faith in the Bible

Someone who had faith in the bible was Jacob’s son, Joseph. Joseph was a young man who was sold into slavery by his own brothers. He was eventually promoted by one of Pharaoh’s officials to be in charge of his entire household. However, after his promotion he was blatantly lied on then thrown into jail! After being jailed for years—for a crime that he did not commit—he was miraculously released after interpreting Pharaoh’s troubling dream. He then became the second-in-command over the entire country of Egypt.

Joseph is well-known as a righteous young man who had dreams and could interpret them. When we think of people who had faith in the Bible, we usually don’t think of Joseph immediately. But… Joseph definitely had faith!

…

He still believed in God despite being betrayed, enslaved, and lied on for years. Joseph could’ve easily turned his back on God after all the pain that he had to experience and endure. He could’ve became bitter and had a horrible attitude. Joseph could’ve began to doubt the dream that God gave him as a young man. He could’ve questioned God like, “God why did you give me that dream if it wasn’t going to happen?’ ‘Why do I keep getting mistreated?’ ‘Why is my life so bad and I’ve been innocent the entire time?” He could’ve given up on God and began serving Egyptian gods instead, but he didn’t.

He never turned away from God, although he could have. It takes great faith to go through as many hardships that Joseph went through and still trust and remain faithful to God. It took thirteen years for his dream to come into fruition and to finally step into his God-given purpose. Thirteen long, hard, troubled years. That’s a long time to believe in God only to see your life go downhill and get worst and worst with time.

Joseph’s faith

Joseph’s faith didn’t stop there though. He believed that Egypt wasn’t his permanent burial location right up until his death. Before he died, he made his family promise to carry his bones with them during their mass Exodus out of Egypt. He spoke of the Israelites Exodus hundreds of years before it actually happened, and when the Israelites left Egypt his promise was fulfilled. Joseph was a phenomenal man of faith who walked by faith and not by sight. It takes great faith to be surrounded by all that he was and still place his trust and full assurance in God.

The woman with great faith in the Bible

A woman who had great faith in the Bible is actually nameless, but her strong act of faith will always be remembered. Mark 5:25-32, gives an account of a lady who suffered from bleeding for 12 years. No doctor could heal her and her condition got worst after seeking help from doctors. As Jesus walked through a crowd, she saw him and believed that if only she could touch his clothes, then she would be healed. She was right! The moment she touched his clothes she was instantly healed from 12 long years of suffering.

That moment caused Jesus to stop and question the crowd to see who had touched him. The woman then told Jesus it was her. Jesus publicly recognized the woman for her great faith and told her that her faith had healed her. For the woman to have the thought that touching his clothes would heal her, then to show action by actually reaching out to touch him symbolized her faith.

Her act of faith also proves several scriptures to be true such as:

  • “As a man thinks so is he,”

She believed she would be healed by touching his clothes and because she believed it, she received her healing.

  • “Faith without works is dead,”

Her faith started with her thought, then it intensified because she took the next step of acting on her faith. Her action of touching his clothes in accordance with her thought of believing that she would be healed caused her to be healed instantly!

  • “Walk by faith and not by sight”

She didn’t let her illness or previous failed attempts at getting healed stand in her way! Instead, she believed that Jesus could heal her. She walked in faith despite what her current circumstances looked like and was heal healed because of so.

What is an example of faith in daily life?

An excellent example of faith in everyday life is choosing to actually believe in God. We believers cannot even see Him! It takes a lot of faith to believe and rely on someone who you can’t see or touch and have never seen/touched before. We have no idea what He looks like, but we unwaveringly believe in Him. We believe in His very existence without knowing any details of how He even existed before us. To us humans, we can’t understand that and never will, but one thing we believers all understand is that He is real! And we know that first, through having faith.

Examples of great faith in the Bible

Matthew 8:1-4, the man with leprosy who was healed is a great example of faith.

  • This man’s faith was so great that he already knew Jesus was capable of healing him before he was ever even healed. His healing came when he asked Jesus if he would be willing to heal him, not if he could heal him. Because he already knew that Jesus could heal him.

Luke 5:17-20, the paralytic man and the men who placed him in front of Jesus is another example of great faith.

  • These men had so much faith and determination to get the paralyzed man healed that they climbed onto a roof so that they could place the paralytic man in front of Jesus! They could’ve seen that it was so crowded around Jesus then easily turned away and went home. Yet, they pushed through and went to the extent of climbing on a roof to get the sick man near Jesus. Ultimately, the paralyzed man was healed and able to walk after such a grand gesture of faith. How amazing!

What is an example of faith in action in the Bible?

The woman with the bleeding issue that we just discussed was a great example of faith in action in the Bible. However, we can’t talk about faith in action and not talk about the father of faith, Abraham. Abraham’s faith was proven over and over again. He showed faith when he obeyed God and left his father’s home. He had no idea where he was going and lived a nomadic lifestyle in tents, as he chose to fiercely follow God. Leaving your country, people, and family behind is a lot easier said than done. Abraham’s life is an example of faith in action because he proved himself faithful to the Lord many times.
