Have you ever heard the scripture that faith can move mountains? This scripture is so simple, yet true. If faith is required even for the smallest of things, then just imagine how huge a role faith plays in the large things. Let’s explore what faith is and five top ways that you can exercise your faith.

When you think of exercise, I bet you immediately think of a physical workout that involves moving around or lifting weights.
What if I told you that you can also exercise your faith, and the more you exercise it, the stronger it gets. Just like we exercise our biceps and hamstrings, our faith should get a good workout too– to keep it strong.
Exercise should not be limited to just physical activity. Your faith is deserving of a good workout too! If you begin to treat faith like it is a muscle then you will become bold and unstoppable.
In this post, you are going to learn about faith and five top ways that you can start exercising your faith.
After reading this post, you will walk away knowing what faith is and understand five ways that you can incorporate faith into your daily life.
This post is all about how faith can move mountains.
Faith Can Move Mountains
Faith can move mountains examples
A great example of faith moving mountains is what took place right before Jesus gave great insight to those words. In Matthew 17:14, there was a boy who suffered from seizures caused by a demonic spirit.
When his father saw Jesus, he told Him his son’s issue and that Jesus’ disciples could not heal the boy when they tried.
In that very instance, Jesus rebuked the demonic spirit and the boy was healed. With His disciples wondering why they couldn’t cast the demonic spirit out themselves, they directly asked Jesus, “Why couldn’t we drive it out?”
Jesus responded, “Because you have so little faith. I tell you the truth, if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there’ and it will move. Nothing will be impossible for you.”
“Faith can move mountains” should be taken figuratively, not literally. It’s just a metaphor that shows how powerful having faith is, and how that faith can yield spectacular results.
Think about it, if all it takes is a mustard seed of faith to do something so major, how much more could be accomplished if you had several mustard seeds?

5 Great ways to exercise your faith
Believe that it’s already yours before you ever receive it.
This is one of the best and most important ways to begin practicing. Why? Because if we look to Hebrews 11:1, it clearly states, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, and the evidence of things not seen.” If you begin believing that whatever it is that you’re praying for is going to come to past this will remove all doubt, worry, and anxiety that you experience as a result of not believing. Not only does this method improve your faith but it brings peace of mind and boost happiness. It’s similar to the phrase “set and forget” because you know that your prayers will be answered! Treat your prayers as if they’ve already been answered.
Pray until you get it.
Sometimes, what you’re believing God for may not come quickly. It may take time because it’s not time for you to have it yet. That does not mean that you won’t get it. Everything happens in God’s perfect timing. The story of Joseph is a great example. Don’t be discouraged just because you’re not seeing results. Keep going! Keep believing! And know that what you want will happen. Keep a positive outlook and perspective but most of all don’t let doubt seep into your mind, or else…your doubt will not move that mountain.
Take action! Be bold!
Faith paired with action is powerful. James 2:17 says, “In the same way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied with action, is dead.” Sitting back praying for a job, but never applying for a job is the perfect way to not get hired. You must apply yourself with your actions if you want it to happen. When your words and actions match up, it’s the force that takes faith to the next level. It goes beyond just speaking about what you want. It intensifies faith by doing what you want and going after it! When you take action to do what you’re believing for, you are inadvertently telling God that you have faith.
Make future plans.
When you don’t have it yet, make future plans as if you’re going to get it. This comes natural to me because I’ve been blessed with the gift of faith. I’m constantly making plans as if I already have what I asked God for. It may sound crazy but it works! I’ve used this method many times way before buying cars, buying furniture to redecorate my entire place, planning out future vacations, and so much more. Utilizing this method will strengthen your faith.
A lot of times I’ll make an entire list of items that I know I’m going to get (but don’t have yet, and don’t know how I’m going to get lol). First, I’ll find the items or things I want. Then, I make note of its price and where to purchase. Finally, I’ll create a folder in my phone with a screenshot of each item saved to that folder. I kid you not, almost always I get every single item that I have on that list. Because faith is my currency!
- Practice delayed gratification.
Routinely practicing delayed gratification will build your faith. As humans, sometimes when faced with a problem, we’ll tend to go with the first solution that comes our way, just because we want our problem solved— even if the solution isn’t fully right. For example: you pray for a car, and find one that’s the right price, it looks decent, and it’s the type of car you want. But there’s cigarette burn holes in the seats, a few tears in the leather, and scratches in the exterior paint. So, you say, I’ll just get seat covers to hide the seat problems and buff the exterior to minimize the scratches. But… is this really what you had in mind and believed God for? A car with cigarette burns, tears in the seats, and scratched paint? Probably not.
You didn’t believe God for a car that you’d have to buy car seat covers for and have scratches buffed out. You believed God for something better. Which leads me to say that settling is not something that God desires for us. Sometimes you’ll pray for a thing and get presented with something that’s not fully what you want. That doesn’t mean that it’s an answered prayer from God.
If it’s not what you fully believed God for, then let that go and continue to wait until you’re presented with exactly what you want. Do not compromise or settle for something that’s halfway what you want.
Because that’s not what you believed God for. Some of the best advice I’ve ever received is, “get what you want, not what you can get.” Because if you wait for it, you can get exactly what you want!
I naturally practice these five methods daily, and they’ve helped to maximize my faith. If it works for me, then I know it’ll work for you. Applying these five faith exercises will have your faith stronger in no time!

Who said faith can move mountains?
Paul said faith can move mountains in 1 Cor 13:2, but that saying is often referenced to Mathew 17:20, when Jesus said “if you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to the mountain be removed and cast into the sea and it will move.”
In other words, Jesus told us how a person’s faith can move mountains, whereas the actual biblical verse—verbatim—basically sums up what Jesus said about moving mountains with faith.

What did Jesus say about faith?
Jesus said a few insightful things about faith. One thing I’ve noticed is, whenever he healed or saved someone he often said, “your faith has healed you.” This implies that faith is a fundamental foundation of healing.
If you have faith and believe, you can not only be healed, but can also overcome any obstacle in your way. Amen! Here are five scriptures, all spoken by Jesus, that will give you clarity about faith:
- Mark 11:22-24, “Have faith in God,” Jesus answered. I tell you the truth, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go throw yourself into the sea.’ And does not doubt in his heart but believes that what he says will happen, it will be done for him. Therefore, I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it and it will be yours.”
- John 20:29, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”
- John 11:40, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”
- Luke 18:27, Jesus said, “What is impossible with men, is possible with God.”
- Luke 18:42, Jesus said to him, “receive your sight; your faith as healed you”
