Walking with God requires us to have what I call, Abraham faith. His faith was so strong and unbreakable! Abraham’s faith didn’t waver, even when things didn’t fully make sense. And that’s the kind of faith we should all aspire to have. Let’s explore more about Abraham faith.

Hebrews 11, defines faith as being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Abraham fits the description of Hebrews 11 precisely.
Abraham’s faith opened doors for all future generations to have a relationship with Jesus Christ. He showed us that although following God can be filled with lots of uncertainty, in the end, it was all worth it. Because God greatly blessed Abraham and his descendants due to his faith and obedience.
God made many lofty promises to him that took a very long time to fulfill.
It took many years—even decades—for Abraham to receive the promises of God. But God delivered on all of his promises, even when it looked impossible to deliver upon. Hence, Isaac.
In this post you are going to learn two examples of Abraham’s faith, how Abraham’s faith was tested, and Bible verses that talks about Abraham’s faith.
After reading this post, you’ll understand why Abraham was the lead pioneer in faith. And how his faith opened the door for all generations to come.
This post is all about Abraham faith.

What are two examples of Abraham’s faith?
Abraham’s life was filled with a series of bold life decisions that required much faith. The call of Abraham was his first known demonstration of exuding such faith. When God called Abraham, he commanded him to leave his family and country behind to travel to an unknown place.
And Abraham did just that, with no turn-by-turn directions. He wandered from place to place living a nomadic lifestyle to follow and obey God. He traded the familiarity of his country and family for a life of uncertainty that required lots of faith, patience, and obedience. This big act was the very start of his faith filled journey with God.
Abraham’s first action of faith was leaving his family behind, but a second example of his faith was rescuing a beloved family member, Lot. After the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah lost at war, Abraham’s nephew, Lot was taken captive. When Abraham heard about it, he devised a plan to rescue his nephew.
Though he was outnumbered and only had 318 trained men willing to fight, that still didn’t deter him from rescuing Lot.
In the night, his small army successfully attacked and recovered not only Lot, but Lot’s possessions, and others who were taken captive as well.
Abraham’s faith was exceptional considering the fact that he went against the armies of four kings, who had just won a war, and retrieved his nephew just as he had planned. His belief and faith allowed him to take risk that most people would’ve been too afraid to take.

Abraham faith tested
Abraham’s faith was made perfect when God decided to test him. One day, God commanded Abraham to take his son, Isaac to a mountaintop to sacrifice him to God. Without any questions or hesitation, Abraham followed God’s order and began heading to the mountain with Isaac the next morning.
When they arrived at the mountain top, Abraham pulled out a knife and just as he was about to sacrifice his much-awaited son, an angel spoke to Abraham and told him not to do it. The angel then reassured Abraham that he and his offspring would be blessed because of his obedience to God’s command.
What we can learn from Abraham is that faith requires unrelenting obedience and total submission to God… Even when God’s plan goes against all human logic.
Why did God test Abraham’s faith?
1 Samuel 15:22 says, “…Does the Lord delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices as much as in obeying the voice of the Lord? To obey is better than sacrifice…”
Abraham greatly pleased God after he willingly obeyed his command to sacrifice Isaac. The test didn’t make any sense at all, but that still didn’t stop Abraham from following God’s command. It was his very act of obedience that caused him to pass the test with excellence.
Hebrews 11:19 gives us insight into Abraham’s frame of mind as he was about to sacrifice Isaac. It tells us that Abraham had so much faith in the Lord that he thought if he sacrificed his son to God, then God would miraculously raise Isaac from the dead. Notice, he never questioned God and he didn’t have all the answers. He just did what he was told to do and utilized his radical faith to carry it out.

Which Bible verse talks about Abraham’s faith?
Hebrews 11:8-12,
“By faith Abraham when called to go to a place he would later receive as his inheritance, obeyed, and went, even though he did not know where he was going.
By faith he made his home in the promised land like a stranger in a foreign country. He lived in tents as did Isaac and Jacob, who were heirs with him of the same promise. For he was looking forward to the city with foundations, whose architect and builder is God.
By faith Abraham, even though he was past age—and Sarah herself was barren—was enabled to become a father because he considered him faithful who had made the promise.
And so, from this one man, and he as good as dead, came descendants as numerous as the stars in the sky and as countless as the sand on the seashore.”
And Hebrews 11:17-19,
“By faith Abraham when God tested him, offered Isaac as a sacrifice. He who received the promises was about to sacrifice his one and only son, even though God had said to him, “It is through Isaac that your offspring will be reckoned.” Abraham reasoned that God could raise the dead, and figuratively speaking, he did receive Isaac back from earth.”
These Bible verses are significant because they show believers the importance of faith and how it was clearly demonstrated through the “Father of Faith,” Abraham.
His faith is mainly known for waiting for his heir, Isaac. However, Abraham’s faith wasn’t just limited to waiting over 25 years for an heir. He also revealed his faith when he was willing to: sacrifice his promised heir to God, leave his home country and family, rescue his nephew Lot from captivity, and send his servant to find Isaac’s wife Rebekah. Abraham really lived a faith filled life and it showed greatly in his actions.
