How to keep the faith when everything is going wrong

A perfect biblical character to model when it comes to keeping the faith is Apostle Paul. Paul endured many hardships, beatings, jailings, and more at the expense of his faith, but still he persevered and preached the Gospel through it all.

When all odds were against him and Silas during their imprisonment, Paul and Silas prayed and a miracle resulted from their praise and prayers. An earthquake shook the prison and freed every prisoner from their chains and even caused all the prison doors to open so that they could walk out if they desired. This example shows us that praise and prayer is powerful and effective, and also an excellent way to keep the faith when things are going wrong.

Everything that could’ve went wrong did go wrong when Paul and Silas entered Macedonia. They were expecting to preach the Gospel to save lives, yet they encountered jail and physical abuse. But they didn’t allow being jailed and abused to stop them from still believing in God when everything was going wrong.

3 Tips for how to trust God even in difficult times

  1. Read

the Bible so it’ll keep your faith alive. There are so many heartbreaking stories in the Bible that are truly discouraging, like the stories of Job, Joseph, and Ruth. In those stories they appear sad at first, but as you read more, you’ll see that there’s a commonality between them all. Which is: God saved, redeemed, and delivered them from their trials and tribulations even when it seemed impossible. Reading the Bible is a huge help and motivation to keep the faith and trust God when times get hard.

  2. Reflect

on the goodness of God and all He has done for you. I’m sure there’s been times when you needed God and it didn’t seem like there was a way out of your circumstances, but God stepped in and saved you. Really take your time to think about past experiences because if God did it before, then he can definitely do it again! Reflection will show you that there’s nothing too hard for God.

  3. Pray

continuously about whatever is bothering you. Prayer keeps us in constant communication with God, and it allows us to tell Him our needs and desires. God listens and sends us guidance and insight through the Holy Spirit when we pray. Prayer is extremely effective in keeping our faith during difficult times, so pray until you receive your breakthrough! It may take a while but do not be discouraged, instead wait faithfully and patiently on the Lord.

Short prayer for faith

Lord,

“I thank you that I can come to you in my time of need. God, I ask that you get me through this time in my life and give me grace to endure. Father God, I’m in need of faith, so I ask that you strengthen it.

Bless my faith so that I can confidently walk by faith and not by sight just as your word says. I rebuke and bind all thoughts that are not of God that causes me to lose my faith. Help me Heavenly Father and strengthen my faith and trust in you.”

In Jesus mighty name I pray, Amen.
