men of faith in the bibleThe men with faith in the Bible are plenty, and we can learn a thing or two from them by examining them. When you think of men of faith in the Bible, I’m sure Abraham is the first person you think of. He definitely had an abundance of faith that’s for sure.

Abraham displayed his faith many times to God and was rewarded because of it. Noah also had faith, when he obeyed God and built the ark before the flood.

Peter’s faith was so tremendous that he actually rose a woman from the dead. Now that’s a lot of faith! I could go on and on about people with faith in the Bible, but I’ll stop there.

After reading this post, you’ll be empowered to push through and fight the good fight of faith, because its rewards are sooooooooo worth it!

This post is all about men of faith in the Bible.

Men of Faith in the Bible

Who are the three men of faith in the Bible?

Many men had faith in the Bible, but I’ll focus on Abraham, David, and Paul.

Abraham

We can’t mention men of faith without including the “Father of Faith,” himself, Abraham. Abraham pretty much gave us the blueprint of having faith during his 25-year wait to have an heir be born, during his unimaginable test from God, to leaving his home country and family to follow God, and the list goes on. However, one of my favorite examples of Abraham’s faith besides what’s listed above, is when he rescued his nephew, Lot from four kings who seized him during war.

Abraham had to have beyond tremendous faith to even take action to do something as bold and fearless as that. When Abraham heard that Lot had been taken, he organized 318 trained fighters—from his household—to pursue and attack the armies that took him. He not only rescued his nephew, but he managed to recover all Lot’s possessions and rescue others as well. Considering that the kings of Sodom and Gomorrah ran from the kings who won the battle, it’s safe to say that Abraham was a man of faith!

David

King David’s faith helped him solidify his position as King of Israel. When David fearlessly fought Goliath the giant, and won, he became beloved and respected by many. That’s because while everyone—including King Saul—was terrified to fight Goliath, as he taunted and challenged them for 40 days, David was not. In fact, he was the only person who wasn’t afraid of Goliath. David was like a peanut compared to Goliath, but when a person has faith, it produces a certain boldness about them. His faith was put on display for all to see when he boldly faced Goliath and killed him in front of everyone, which caused the Israelites to win the war against the Philistines.

His fight with Goliath teaches us that with faith, we can defy the odds despite how may odds are against us. In fact, David’s whole life was about defeating the odds. From the time he was anointed to be king, to the many times that King Saul tried to kill him out of jealously. King David had to have faith to overcome all the obstacles that he faced in his life.

Apostle Paul

Apostle Paul’s diehard commitment to his beliefs was where his faith showed most. He was once an enemy of the early church, but that all changed when he had an undeniable encounter with God. As he was on his way to imprison believers, he was unexpectedly stopped by Jesus, by a light so bright that it blinded him. Then, Jesus proceeded to talk to Paul. The conversation with Jesus was enough to convert him from a persecutor of Christians, to a believer of Jesus Christ.

That day changed Paul so much that he began to preach about Jesus in the synagogues, endured many persecutions against him, and it’s even believed that he died for his faith and belief in Jesus Christ. How commendable! Apostle Paul’s faithfulness and commitment to spreading the Gospel, by any means necessary earns him a spot as a man of faith in the Bible.

Who was a man full of faith in the Bible?

The Bible refers to Stephen, in the book of Acts, as a man who was full of faith. Stephen didn’t just have mighty faith though. He also had the Holy Spirit, God’s grace and power. Stephen was a man known to perform miraculous wonders and signs. He was well- respected by the community of believers, as they chose him and six others to fairly oversee food distribution for the widows.

However, although he was respected amongst believers, he was hated by members of the Synagogue. Their hate for Stephen caused them to produce false witnesses against him that resulted in him being put to death because of their lies. In his last words he called out the people against him. He spoke boldly about their wrongs and they couldn’t stand to hear the truth, so they stoned him. Stephen’s ability to speak boldly and with such conviction to the people before he died was a sign of remarkable faith, even as he experienced resistance by many. Stephen kept his faith even up unto the end of his life, and for that he is surely recognized as a man full of faith in the Bible.

Examples of great faith in the Bible

There are many examples of faith in the Bible, but I’ll focus on these three really good examples.

Criminal on the Cross

The criminal who died on the cross next to Jesus showed exemplary faith. His faith in Jesus awarded him salvation right before his death. This man could’ve easily shown disbelief in Jesus according to both of their circumstances, but he didn’t. He could’ve been like the other hanging criminal and threw insults and ridiculed Jesus as well, but he didn’t. He chose instead to believe that Jesus was the Son of God as he was being crucified.

Peter & Tabitha

In Acts 9, a disciple named Tabitha died from sickness. She was a woman who was good to others and helped the poor. As her lifeless body laid in a room, Peter got on his knees and began to pray. As he prayed, he commanded her to get up. Immediately, she opened her eyes, sat up, and was no longer dead. Peter could’ve never rose her from the dead if he didn’t have the faith to back him up.

Early Church & Disciples

The early church believers were definitely great examples of faith. They stood firmly in their faith without wavering, even when the world was against them. They were mistreated, persecuted, imprisoned, and even martyred (killed) for their faith. Had they not fought the good fight of faith, then there’s no telling where the Gospel of Truth would be right now. Their tenacious commitment and faithfulness to God and spreading the Gospel proves their great faith. And, it’s so commendable.
