Reading about King David shows us how powerful the power of trusting God really is. No matter how hard things got for him, his faith remained steadfast and unshakable in God. Let’s explore the power of trusting God.

If anyone knew how to trust God during hard times, it was definitely King David. He faced constant opposition from his enemies but always seemed to have victory over them.
His power of trusting God during difficult times was his strength. And not only did it get him through, but that same power blessed many generations after him with psalms from the book of psalms.
David’s hard times produced psalms that can be applied to many of life’s problems. He wrote many powerful psalms that many of us still recite, thousands of years later while in his darkest times.
Reading and reflecting on David’s psalms has helped me trust God tremendously in my time of need. I learned that if King David made it through, then I and we all can make it through hard times, while trusting in God along the way.
In this post you’re going to learn how to trust God, 3 benefits of trusting God, and 5 ways to trust God during difficult times.
After reading his post, you’ll know helpful tips and ways to trust God, especially in hard times.
This post is all about the power of trusting God.
The Power of Trusting God
What prevents people from trusting God?
There are many things that prevent people from trusting God. A few common reasons are:
- Allowing fear and doubt to take over
- Negative self-talk
- Not knowing or believing God’s word
- Lack of hearing good testimonies about God
- Thinking that the problem cannot be resolved by God
- Lack of faith in trusting God
- Not having experience with Him
The truth is: every thing that prevents people from trusting in God, does not originate from God. God designed us to fully trust in Him, whether we are in hard times or not. And anything outside of that is not what He wants for us. God can do everything, and the best way to combat lack of trust in God is to:
#1. PRAY
#2. READ THE BIBLE
These two small but very influential things will keep your faith strong and your trust in God even stronger.
Pray even when you don’t feel like it because that healthy habit is packed with power that can bring the right change and opportunity during tough times. There’s been plenty of times when I prayed during hard times and God opened the right door to positively change my circumstances.
Take it from me, no matter how bad things get always pray. Prayer changes things!

How do I begin to trust God?
The Bible has a powerful scripture to help with this. It can be found in Romans 10:17, which states, “faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the word of God.” The Bible is God’s word. So, routinely reading it will get the Word of God instilled in your heart, which over time will build your faith in Him.
Many of God’s people in the Bible went through hard times, but it doesn’t neglect to tell how God delivered them out of those hard times. The collection of shared experiences with God that are passed down in the Bible will help you begin to trust God, especially when you see that the problems they faced were probably much worse than yours.
Just reading about Job alone, is enough to boost your trust in the Lord. Job went through hell and back. He lost everything: his kids, wealth, and health, but through it all his trust remained in God. And God not only delivered him out of his problems, but he blessed him with a double portion of everything he lost.
From reading the story of Job no one would’ve guessed that God was going to bless him in the end, like he did, because things seemed bleak for Job for too long.
However, God showed us his goodness through restoration and his power through deliverance. If God can restore and change Job’s life, then he can most certainly change yours. All you have to do is trust him in your hard times.
How to stop worrying and let God take over?
It’s very easy to say, “don’t worry,” or “stop investing your time, energy, and thoughts into worrying.” But that’s the best way to stop worrying. Instead of investing your time, energy, and thoughts into worrying, invest them into something positive that’s actually going to help you, such as:
- Prayer
- Praising God
- Reading the Bible
- Attending church
- Fellowshipping with other believers
- Worshipping God
Combining some or all of those activities will lessen your worries. Walking in faith and not by sight, accompanied with remembering that God is in control will help you release your burdens to God.
God has our best interest at heart just as a parent has with their child. No parent would let their child suffer and not do anything about it, and God is no different about His children.
Another thing to take into account is that only God has the power to change our problems; not worrying about them all day. Worrying about problems will do nothing to change them.
Replace worry with prayer and reading the Bible first and foremost. Doing that will help you see the changes that you need and desire. And with consistency, it’ll help you let God take over and build your trust in Him.
Here are two helpful scriptures to read and say that will help you stop worrying and remind you to let God take over:
“Cast thy burden upon the Lord, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.” (Psalm 55:22)
And,
“Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you.” (1 Peter 5:7)

3 Benefits of trusting God
- You’ll remain calm in the midst of your storm. When you’ve walked with God long enough and you’ve seen Him deliver you several times that will teach you to trust in Him, no matter how bad things look. It’s those memories that you can reflect and rely on that will keep you strong during your storm. Experience is your best teacher, so continue to stay strong in prayer and His word so that when hard times come, you will not be easily shaken.
- You can encourage and edify others in their hard times. Sometimes enduring difficult times alone is hard, and we may need others to uplift and encourage us to hang in there. So, with the experience of trusting God we get the opportunity to help speak life into others in their hard times. At some point in life, I’ve had to encourage others by sharing a testimony about how God helped me or just by reminding them of His Word and how He is in control and nothing is too hard for Him. And in my hard times others have had to encourage me, and it greatly helped me stay strong and trust the Lord.
- You won’t be easily discouraged when things go wrong. Even when things don’t make sense and aren’t going how you want them to go, you’ll still remain deeply rooted in God. It’s like your faith is anchored in Him and nothing and no one can uproot it. You know you can easily go to Him in prayer to change your circumstances, because faith intertwined with prayer is powerful enough to bring the change that you need.
