Prayer Time
Prayer Time with God
The Bible makes it clear that prayer was an important aspect of Jesus’ day. If we look at his actions, he always made time for prayer. No matter how many people hounded him for healing and teachings; he always managed to find time alone to dedicate to prayer.
In Mark 1:35, it states that Jesus woke up early in the morning, to pray. Before he chose the twelve apostles, he prayed. While he was in the garden of Gethsemane before his crucifixion, he prayed. After Jesus performed miracles of healing and feeding thousands, he prayed. The point I’m making is that, even Jesus knew that making time for consistent prayer was important. So, if Jesus practiced consistent prayer, then we believers should follow his habit and make time to pray every day!
How to Keep a Prayer Time Schedule
What best helped me to develop a daily prayer time schedule is by waking up an hour earlier than I normally would. Then I’d use that extra hour to pray. I set my phone’s alarm to help me wake up and it took about 1-2 weeks to get used to, but eventually it became a lot easier to wake up and pray. In fact, I look forward to my morning prayers.
During that hour, I spend time not only praying, but quieting my mind so that I can hear the Holy Spirit speak. Because seeking to listen for the Holy Spirit is just as important as prayer. Remember: prayer is communication between you and God, so always keep that line of communication open by listening just in case He decides to speak to you.

Prayer Time Schedule Continued
Throughout the day I pray short prayers as well, but I also make sure to dedicate time to prayer before I go to bed, just as I do in the morning. Night prayer comes natural to me, but you may need to set an alarm 30 minutes to one hour before your bedtime, so you can get used to praying at night as well. Practice these habits daily and you’ll develop a prayer schedule that works for you.
Also, if you’d prefer to pray in the afternoon or at a different time other than morning/night, then find a time that works best for you. Just as long as you have a daily reminder, like setting your phone’s alarm, and spend that time in prayer.
You’ll find that as you begin to make prayer time a part of your daily routine it’ll become second nature to you. Just as you wake up and brush your teeth every day without skipping it, you’ll do the same when you practice your daily prayer routine. Through experience I’ve found that starting and ending the day with prayer makes you feel more complete, at peace, and just overall better. It truly is a blessing to have a consistent prayer schedule.
Staying Dedicated to your Prayer Time
The best way to stay dedicated to your prayer time schedule is to not make any excuses. Excuses will not get you anywhere! It’s similar to exercising, when you exercise you must be consistent in order to see visible results. And guess what, staying consistent and not procrastinating or making excuses is exactly what it takes to remain dedicated.
Trust me, I get it, it’s easy to say you’re tired and you’ll pray later, but that way of thinking has to stop one day. And the sooner, the better. Treat your prayer schedule just as you would to: brush your teeth, get dressed, exercise, eat, sleep, etc. You never make excuses for any of those daily activities so don’t make excuses for daily prayer. Always make time for it, just as Jesus did.

Using a prayer journal
Having interactive prayer activities to engage in daily is a great addition to maintaining your prayer time. If you need to visually see your prayers, then I’d recommend getting a prayer journal or even creating a prayer board. These methods are useful because you can actually sit and take the time to think and reflect as you write your needs and prayers.
If you want to get even more creative than journaling, then you can create your own prayer board so you can beautify it to your liking and see it every day. These additions will serve as a reminder to pray and keep you motivated to daily prayer.

Benefits of Consistent Prayer Time
You develop a trusting relationship with God.
The more you routinely communicate with someone the more you develop a bond. Trust will begin to form and build over time, and you’ll get closer to God. Prayer will build your faith and keep you strong spiritually. Through consistent prayer, you’ll develop a deep-knowing that God is reliable and trustworthy. And that will motivate you to stay consistent with prayer.
You can’t live without it.
You’ll find that the more you practice daily prayer time, the more you will need it. It’ll become just as important as breathing air and drinking water. Because it brings a certain peace from within that cannot and will never be replicated. And that’s addicting! It brings out the good in you, by giving you strength, faith, love, joy, and so much more! Seriously, who wouldn’t want to walk around feeling good from within?
You’ll experience consistent peace.
The levels of peace that you’ll experience with routine prayer is out of this world. Negative, fearful emotions, and ways of thinking will diminish because you trust that God hears you and is with you. When bad news comes your way, you will not automatically begin to think negatively. Instead, you’ll go straight to prayer and take the matter to God, without feeling uneasy. You’ll have the ability to maintain peace even through the storm because you know that God hears you in prayer.

Prayer Time Today
If you’re struggling to maintain a daily prayer time schedule, then here’s a prayer to help you:
Lord,
“I’d like to make prayer a consistent part of my life. However, I am struggling to stay on track with my prayer life. I ask that you make it easy for me to pray daily and consistently. Place prayer on my heart and mind as soon as I wake up.
Give me an intense desire to pray several times throughout the day and maintain an active prayer life. I pray that through consistent daily prayer, that I develop a love for prayer without making any excuses or procrastinating. Place in me a strong love for prayer. Just as I love and enjoy my hobbies and make time for them, let me do the same with prayer. Bless and guide my prayers and word my mouth with what to say as I pray.
I pray that you keep me fully engaged, invested, and interested in spending quality time with you in prayer. Let my interest extend beyond just prayer, and into praise, worship, meditation, reading your word, and fellowship with other believers. Help me Lord to pray daily and to make it a daily habit. Thank you, Lord for taking the time to hear me. And I pray and ask that you acknowledge and answer my prayer.”
In Jesus name I pray, Amen.
In the next section of this article, I’ll give you a few helpful scriptures.
