Faith can be tested. No one is more familiar with this experience than Abraham. His greatest test came when God asked him to sacrifice his only son, Isaac. Surprisingly, Abraham chose to obey!

However, his obedience to an insane request, tremendously proved his faith to God. Being willing to sacrifice something for God is something that I can relate to, after walking with Him for many years. Walking with God is not for the faint of heart, as it requires us to give up certain things, habits, ways, etc. to grow with Him.

In this post, you are going to learn how Abraham proved his faith to God—in an extraordinary way—and learn 10 reasons to have faith in God.

After reading this post, you will hopefully begin believing in the 10 reasons to have faith in God. First, let’s take a peek at Abraham’s extraordinary act that showed his faith to God.

This post is all about faith to God.

How do I show my faith to God?

Showing your faith to God is easy to do when you fully trust in Him. If we look at Genesis 22, we see that God tested Abraham by commanding him to offer his promised son, Isaac, as a sacrifice to the Lord. So, Abraham took Isaac to a mountain and just as he was about to sacrifice him, the angel of the Lord intervened and commanded Abraham not to lay a finger on Isaac.

Abraham’s willingness to sacrifice his son because he fully trusted God, even when things didn’t make sense, showed Abraham’s immeasurable faith to God. We can learn from this incredible act of faith that obeying God even when it doesn’t make sense will show God that you have strong faith and complete assurance in Him.

10 Reasons to have faith in God

  1. God is more powerful than anyone and anything.

A good example of this truth is in Exodus, when God freed the children of Israel from Egypt. Look at all of what God did to set them free from slavery. When Pharaoh—the ruler of ancient Egypt—refused to let them go, God sent disastrous plague after plague until Pharaoh complied and released the children of Israel. Although Egypt was the most powerful leading nation at that time, it serves as a reminder that no amount of power or resources is more powerful than God. With all the power and vast resources that Pharaoh had, even he had to submit to the will of God.

  1. God is good and wants good for His children.

We must not forget that God is our parent. There’s a reason we call him Father because He really is our Father! Every parent wants good for their child and has their child’s best interest at heart. As children of God we should know that if our earthly parents can provide, protect, and nourish us then how much more will God do for His children? One thing I can say, is that He is not a negligent Father. He never has been and He never will be.

  1. No problem or hardship is too hard for Him to resolve.

When we truly believe and understand that there is nothing too hard for God, then we open the door to have faith in Him. God is in control and has the Wisdom and power to bring us out of undesirable circumstances by any means necessary. If God created the earth, sky, seas, land, plants, trees, day and night, animals, the first human—Adam, and much more, then we should know that there is nothing that God can’t do. And no problem is to hard from to solve.

  1. God has the power to change circumstances despite what it looks like.

When the Children of Israel cried and prayed to God about their slavery in Egypt, God intervened after many years and changed their circumstances for the better. Only God could’ve done that because Pharaoh was not willing to free them from slavery. We can learn that when God wants to change your circumstances, He will go to great lengths to do so. In a mighty act of power, He went so far as to depart the Red Sea so they could leave Egypt. Only God had the power to bring such a change as powerful as that!

  1. God loves you and will never fail you.

Knowing and resting in God’s love should make a person feel safe. If someone genuinely loves you, they’re not going to leave you hanging and fail you, even when the going gets tough. If God is love and the creator of it, then we should rest assured that He loves us and He will never fail us, no matter how bad things get.

  1. To strengthen your trust in God.

When times of testing come, you’ll be firmly rooted and planted in Him and not panic when you see problems arise. When you habitually place your faith in God you’ll have a strong knowing that God will handle the situation for you perfectly. For example, just the other day I received bad news. Most people in that situation would’ve panicked and been worried, but I didn’t. I remained at peace and my first instinct was to trust God, even though it didn’t make sense. My faith and trust in God is so strong that nothing can shake it. After years of being in relation with Him, I know that He’s going to make a way out of no way, so I’m not afraid of anything bad that comes my way, because I trust Him wholeheartedly.

  1. God is wise and His ways are higher than ours.

Sometimes we may think we have everything figured out, but in reality, we don’t. When God promised Abraham a child, he promised Isaac, not Ishmael. But because Sarah took matters into her own hands and didn’t trust God’s promise she added more pain to the situation than good. In the midst of it all, God’s promise still came to pass even with Sarah’s unwanted interference. So, trust God’s profound wisdom and His promises even when you don’t fully understand them. His ways are higher and better than our own.

  1. God has the final say so in your circumstances.

God can override what people say or do to you. A clear example, points back to Pharaoh, when he decided to chase the Children of Israel to prevent them from leaving Egypt. He thought he had the final say so in whether God’s children could leave Egypt or not. However, he did not and he was sadly mistaken. That one mistake, cost him his life. God had the final say, and what God wanted to happen, happened.

  1. To please God.

God loves when we put our faith and trust in Him. It gives Him further reason to act on our behalf and bring the positive changes that we desire. If having faith in Him is a key component of speaking to Him in prayer, then that says a lot about how much He values us having faith in Him. We can’t even speak to Him, firstly, without believing in Him. Take the time to reflect and think about how deep that really is.

  1. God is able to do…

“exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us,” Ephesians 3:20 said it best! This scripture alone is a strong enough reason to have faith in God.

How do you show strong faith in God?

Take a lesson from Abraham and do the unthinkable and what many others would probably never do. Go down the path less traveled, like Abraham did. He left everything he knew to obey God even when he didn’t know the next steps of his journey. If we’ve been taking notes from Abraham, then we know that our actions must align with our thoughts and words to show strong faith in God. Simply thinking and believing is not enough, you must take action as well, to show your faith in God.

Faith in God Examples

We must remember that faith is the evidence of things not seen. Stepping out on faith is not always easy to do, especially when you don’t know what’s going to happen next. These three Biblical examples of faith in God took tremendous amounts of faith to do.

  • Abraham

Genesis 22, as we discussed earlier, Abraham was willing to sacrifice his only son, that God promised him, to obey God. Nothing about God’s command to Abraham made sense, but it was the perfect example of Abraham having faith in God and showing his faith to God.

  • Rebekah

Genesis 24, tells the story of how Rebekah left her family and everything behind to live in a foreign country and marry a man that she had never even seen before. Doing something of that magnitude requires a great deal of faith which is why she makes a great example of having faith in God.

  • Daniel

Daniel 6, When Daniel remained loyal to God and refused to pray to King Darius, he was thrown into a den of lions. Knowing the consequences of not praying to the king, Daniel remained faithful to God and in turn God kept him from being killed by vicious lions. Daniel’s incredible act of faith is an awesome example of faith in the Bible.

Though an army besiege me, my heart will not fear; though war break out against me, even then will I be confident.”
