How to use Psalm 91 to pray
Psalm 91 is a powerful scripture about the Lord’s protection. It’s a real confidence booster!
I remember as a teenager, I went through a hard time in life and that’s the moment I began going deeper with God. So, I began reading His word and praying a lot all throughout my teenage years. I was really at a point in my life where I needed Him, and only He could get me through the hard times I faced. Psalm 91 was one of my go to scriptures that I read aloud daily (really, three times a day). It helped increase my faith in the Lord. It strengthened me, and gave me the confidence to know that God is my protector and no harm will come my way.
If you want to use Psalm 91 to pray then you should read it aloud. This is how I use it to pray:
- First, I find it in the Bible and read it aloud.
- Next, I declare it over my life. So, I’ll simply say, “Lord, I speak Psalm 91 over my life.”
- Then, I begin to pray about whatever is bothering me aloud.
It’s that simple. You’ll find that as you consistently read it daily, the more connected to God you’ll feel and the stronger your faith in Him will get. It’ll feel as if no evil can prevail in your life. Like I said it’s a real confidence booster.

What is a simple but powerful prayer
The Lord’s prayer. I never understood how powerful that prayer was until I took the time to reflect on it. That’s the most powerful prayer in the Bible considering who it came from. It came straight out the mouth of Jesus, God in the flesh. Jesus could’ve spoken any words, but He chose to speak those very words. It was literally God teaching us how to pray and it was so short and simple.
The prayer first acknowledges God, His reverence, and His holiness. Then, it goes on to speak about His will being done, which is powerful in itself. Next it ask God to cover our daily needs. It then speaks about forgiveness, which every believer should partake in if they want to be forgiven by God for their wrongdoings. Last but not least, it covers deliverance from the devil, which we all need.
In Matthew 6:9-13, the prayer reads:
“…Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come your will be done, on earth
as it is in heaven. Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven
our debtors. And lead us not into temptation,
but deliver us from the evil one.”
Is it OK to pray in your head?
Yes, sometimes you’ll be placed in situations where you have no choice but to pray in your head. I’ve been there plenty. There will also be times in life when you may not have the energy or strength to pray aloud, that’s when you can pray in your head too. You pray just as you would aloud, but you don’t speak it aloud, and that’s OK. God is such an understanding God that He understands. Praying in your head is okay, but it shouldn’t be the only way you pray. The best way to pray is aloud; it’s more effective, because you can speak things into existence, but it is okay to pray in your head as well.
